A 16-year-old Beloit teen-ager is in critical condition after being hit by a car overnight.
It all started when police say David Nereu lost control of the car he was driving near the intersection of Route 2 and Meridian in Ogle County. He went off the roadway, drove into a yard and hit a tree. Nereu then left the scene on foot.
Police say he then went to cross Meridian and was hit by a car driven by 32-year-old James Rieck.
Neueu was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital where he's in critical condition.
The accident remains under investigation.
