Police in Beloit searched today for remains of a teenage boy who might have been murdered in the city nearly two years ago.
Police acted on a letter received several weeks ago from 58-year old John Bell, an inmate in an Illinois prison, indicating he may have molested and then murdered a teenager in an unpopulated area of the city.
Ten officers and five cadaver dogs started the search in the area between the Beloit industrial park and colly road. Police say there are no indications of a buried body.
Buell is currently serving an extensive sentence for sex offenses against children in Rockford.
