Passing traditions onto younger generations is how some at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford say has kept them around.
"We keep building youth centers and so the young people have been a part of what makes our congregation continue to renew and reach out as it's been it's emphasis on serving the young and youth of our city, says Pastor Denver Bitner.
The church is celebrating 125 years. They held a special homecoming banquet at the Hoffman House today. The church started with 146 Swedish members and today it has grown to include all ethnicities and walks of life. Church services were held in the 5th Avenue building's basement until enough funds were raised to complete construction around 19-13.
