The Machinists Union has confirmed negotiations to end a five-week strike at Chicago-based Boeing have begun. A note saying talks with a federal mediator are under way is posted on the union's web site. Boeing and union spokesmen have said the two sides agreed to a media blackout on the negotiations. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers represents about 27,000 hourly production workers. Key issues include job security, pay, retirement benefits and health care.

With Boeing out sourcing IAM jobs overseas, Boeing has given Russia, japan and China the technology to compete. They knew that if they shared the technology with japan , it would only take 10 years for them to take over the industry, if they wanted to build an airplane. Well , I guess that has come to pass , according to Jim MCNerney. Boeing has said for years , that they didn't want to make the parts , they just wanted to assemble the planes. If we don't take some measures to reduce this outsorcing now, most of the 27,000 workers will be out of work. Think about what that would do to our State, communities and country. Our government allows too many imports into this country. We have become a nation of consumers. We need to get back to producing our own products , Thats our strength in America. So Whos Fault is this Strike? It's not the IAM Machinists. If Boeings employees are it's greatest assets then why shouldn't they offer us a fair contract with no takaway !
