State representative Ron Wait calls accusations made by Democratic challenger Greg Tuite a shameful assault on the truth. Surrounded by veterans, the Republican congressman denied today claims made by the Tuite campaign that Wait voted against veteran programs and then took credit for them when they passed. Wait says what he really voted against was a Democratic budget that was more than two-billion dollars out-of-balance.

"The real issue here of course is again it's just the scurrilous attack that my opponent is to try and distort the real issues of the truth." says Wait

Tuite stands by his accusations. "Ron Wait voted against a flat budget, which included a number of important programs for veterans. He voted against it. That's just the truth. You can look it up. It's his record."

WIFR will host a debate between the two candidates on October 28th on the 23 News at 6:00.
