CRANDON, Wis. (AP) -- More than 100 people gathered in Crandon to mark the date one year ago when six young people were killed in a fit of rage by a man who was paid to protect and serve.

They gathered Tuesday night on the property where the mass shooting took place. The lone survivor of last year's shooting, Charlie Neitzel (NEYET'-zel) returned for the commemoration to honor his friends.

The killer was a man those friends knew, sheriff's deputy Tyler Peterson, the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims. Peterson later killed himself.

Dianne Schultz says although it's been a year since she lost her son, Brad, it feels like yesterday. Schultz says a piece of her is gone and she'll never get it back.
