A steering committee presented its final draft of the county's 2030 land use plan. Maps showed color-coded areas for things like commercial, residential and agricultural development. They're pushing business around the Rockford Airport, Baxter Road and Willowbrook Road; housing where infrastructure's already in place; and maintaining farmland. While the committee presented a final draft Tuesday night, leaders say there will be more public input opportunities down the road.
"Based on what goes on tonight, we may have additional sessions just like this. The steering committee will take the facts back, they'll discuss it, and determine how to proceed from here," County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen said. Christiansen also says a public hearing is required before the county board can sign off on this land use plan.
