Voter registration in Illinois ends tomorrow, so the push is on today at Rock Valley College to get students signed up. Rock Valley College students say this year's election is in their hands. Students were lining up to sign up to vote on monday morning.

"I would like to be a part of history. It's history so why not jump into it and try to make a change?" says freshman Charles Boldman.

"It's really important that we as a generation make sure our voice is heard, because if we don't speak up the generations behind us won't be able to speak up as well. So I've been really encouraging my fellow friends and classmates to get out and vote." adds sophmore Dawn Dundas.

The students aren't the only ones excited about this election. RVC's womens head basketball coach Lewis Houston was pulling desk duty Monday as a registrar. He was so busy signing up new voters we had wait 15 minutes just to interview him.

"I think Americans are going to be more in tune with this election than they have ever been in history so a lot of people are excited about it a lot of first time voters which is great."

A USA Today/MTV/Gallup poll of registered voters 18 to 29 years old shows Obama leading McCain by 61 to 32 percent. That's the most lopsided contest within an age group in any presidential election in modern times.

"Who we're voting for I think is kind of going to be a big thing...obviously. Barack Obama versus McCain, older versus younger stuff like that." says Daniel Cowman.

The poll also says the primary concerns of young people include the conomy, the war in Iraq, and health care. Rock Valley isn't the only Stateline college swept up in election fever. The chairman of the Winnebago County Democratic party Dan Lewandowski says more than 2,000 NIU students registered to vote just last month.
