Violent crimes in a city about 90 miles east of the stateline are on the rise this year, compared to year's past. Unofficial statistics releases today show there were 316 more shootings in Chicago through August. By the end of last month 392 people had been murdered, that's 50 more victims than the same time last year. Police blame the increase on gang activity and drug trafficking.
