Leaves will be collected for composting on your normal garbage collection day. The proper containers are 30-40 gallon biodegradable 2-ply paper bags or standard garbage cans with a bold “X” on the
side of the can facing the street.
Street sweeping will continue through the fall leaf season. Every effort will be made to sweep those leaves that naturally fall in the street area. While our street sweepers normally pick up leaves and debris that naturally fall into the street, the operation is not designed to pick up raked leaves and yard waste.
It is illegal to burn leaves, rake leave into the street, or put them down storm sewers. Please be conscious that lose leaves will clog the storm sewer system and can cause flooding.
If you have any other questions regarding this year's fall leaf collection process, please contact Rebecca Edwards, Customer Relations Technician in the Public Works Department at (815) 987-5570.
