Two men are lucky to be alive after being struck by lightning. It happened Friday at the Wing Park Golf Course in Elgin. The men reportedly sought shelter from the storm under a huge tree.
All it took was one bolt to airlift a 48-year-old to Rockford Memorial Hospital. He is listed in critical condition. His friend, a 45-year-old, was treated and released.
Officials say a bystander administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation to one of the men, and may have saved his life. The incident closed the golf course for the remainder of the day.
A third man who was golfing with the group took cover under another tree. Other golfers say they got off the course when the storm began.
