Two west side Rockford residents escape from an early morning fire in their home. It happened in the 1400 block of Elm Street at around 2:30 Friday morning. A witness says a man and a women were inside when they saw the fire. They both exited a second story window onto the overhang in the front of the house. Witnesses say the man jumped off before rescue crews arrived. The woman waited and was rescued safely down a ladder. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to that one house. Investigators are working on a damage estimate and a cause. Both residents were hospitalized as a precaution. Officials say the injuries are not life-threatening.
