Ida Public Library Turns 125
Belvidere's first public library celebrates major milestone

Belvidere's first public library has reached a major milestone today. For the last 125 years, the Ida Public Library has been feeding us with knowledge. It started when a Civil War general donated five-thousand dollars to start the library in honor of his daughter Ida. Since 1883, it has grown from being housed in a small room in city hall, to a stand alone building of nearly15-thousand square feet.
