For the past week we've been taking an inside look at some of the amazing things local hospitals are doing to fight cancer. Tonight we head to Rockford Memorial to introduce you to the Da Vinci, a robotic instrument that's helping doctors battle the disease.

Doctors call it a fancy video game but in comparison to other hot sellers this fancy video game saves lives. It's called the Da Vinci, the most advanced technology available in robotic surgery. Using controls doctors move their hands and feet, the robot mimics their moves, but with smaller incisions.

"The best example is when we take a gentleman’s prostate out for prostate cancer, you then have to sow back to the other side of where you took the prostate out from, it's a complex move to do and the robot makes it easy to do that with a degree of finesse that you wouldn't have otherwise."

Because of the finesse and smaller incisions patients are back on their feet more quickly then in the past.

Tune in tonight at seven for CBS's cancer fundraiser here on 23 WIFR. The event will be packed with stars trying to raise millions of dollars for research.
