A granary fire just south of Winnebago Wednesday morning called several fire departments into action. Crews were called to a fire at the Delong granary at just after 5 a.m.
Firefighters arrived to find a building already burned to the ground. With the dense fog overnight, officials say the fire was probably burning for hours before it was discovered.
Firefighters had to wait to put water on the fire until crews determined there were no chemicals present that could cause a safety hazard.
ComEd crews were able to disconnect power to the granary before a wide-spread power outage was caused. Nobody was injured.
