Residents on the east side of Rockford may want to put the laundry on hold. Between tomorrow and next Saturday, the city will perform unidirectional flushing between East State Street, Perryville, Harrison and Mulford. Flushing helps remove mineral buildup from inside the pipes.
Now if your water is discolored, city officials say it's not a health hazard. However, during flushing, iron and manganese can get stirred into the water main which could cause staining on porcelain and laundry.
