On August 5 the Rockton Town Hall was filled to capacity as people came to show their support or disaproval for a proposed TIF District. The issue is expected to be decided tonight and the town is still deeply divided. Rockton resident Grace York lives behind the propsed TIF District. She says she doesn't mind the industry in her backyard... For her the problem lies with the TIF. "I don't think ChemTool should be over there not paying taxes for 23 years. I don't think the people should have to support them." Others in the community feel ChemTool will bring them badly needed jobs and money all while cleaning up the polluted site. "Granted, some of the taxes are going to be delayed, but in the end it's gonna be more taxes for the village." says Don Bald, a Rockton homeowner. Village President Dale Adams also supports the TIF. "So I mean the jobs and everytnhing that comes with that certainly is a plus and he seems to be a model corporate citizen by helping us with some of our other projects and needs in the community." Support for the Rockton TIF District is so divided that even neighbors living across the street from each other have different opinions about it. Signs voicing both support and opposition to the TIF line the streets of this small town. Members of the community are anxiously awaiting the board's decision. We attempted to contact ChemTool for comment, but they did not return our calls. The board will likely vote on the issue tonight at 7:00.
