ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Eyes will be to the skies tonight for the city's annual Fourth of July fireworks show. There's a new launch site and organziers promise the sky concert will be better than ever.

The crews from Melrose Pyrotechncs started setting up the shells Tuesday morning and wrapped up just before noon today. They tell us it took about a month to plan out the designs, plot the shell placements and coordinate the music. Last year's finale was under three minutes, this year's will be 3:15 with a shell exploding every second and a half.

"But it makes me feel good, it makes me good when I hear the ooh's and aah's from the kids that are in the audience," said Joe Marino, Mr. Fourth of July. "And to me, when I get my family's approval, that means we've done a good job. The community is entitled to a first-class show, as you're going to see tonight."

The crews will set off test shots every half hour from now until show time at 9:30. That's so everyone can know exactly where the show will be since it's in a different place this year.
