About 50 Catholics and Protestants united this Good Friday to walk for justice in Rockford. They stopped at 14 places around downtown, praying for peace and mercy.
They all shared the burden of carrying a wood cross to represent Jesus' walk to his crucifixion. This walk is an annual event, but their prayers change from year to year.
"At the federal building we prayed for immigrants, that they would be welcome in this community. At each station we tried to reflect upon what was occurring at the Stations of the Cross, but also where we were," says Stanley Campbell, director of Rockford Urban Ministries.
Several churches will commemorate Good Friday with special services. Some kids had the day off from school Friday and Monday because of Easter.
