A judge in Decatur sentenced Ockisha Turner yesterday after she pleaded guilty to burglary for defrauding the Red Cross' mid-Illinois chapter in September.
Turner claimed she was a victim of the Gulf Coast hurricane and received a debit card in exchange.
She's been ordered to pay more than $1,500 in restitution to the Red Cross for the debit card. As part of her plea deal, burglary, theft by deception and drug possession charges were dismissed.
Dennis Eller of the mid-Illinois chapter says the Red Cross will continue to actively pursue charges against anyone who tries to run such a scam.
