A brush fire just south of downtown Rockford sparked a bit of a commotion earlier today.
The fire started in the 500 block of South Main Street - near a bridge used by the Illinois-Chicago and Eastern Rail Company. It caused a bit of a problem for the Rockford Fire Department because there wasn't a hydrant nearby. Long hose lays were needed, but the blaze was quickly put out after a water supply was established. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
