Truancy Proposal

Rockford school board members are giving state lawmakers a lesson in truancy prevention.

Their proposal has passed the Illinois House. It would take away the driver's licenses of students who are chronically truant, meaning they've skipped class for at least 18 days or dropped out of school all together.

Since Rockford has one of the worst truancy rates in our state, this measure could be extremely helpful in getting truants back in class.

The proposal is now awaiting a senate vote.
