Microwaves, drive-thru's, instant coffee, we are a nation of instant gratification - you name it - we expect results right away. Last night Winnebago County found that out the hard way, when its computer system decided not to work.
The way the program's set up, each precinct hands over a card with all it's results - that card is then down loaded into the computer and put onto the website. Well, last night the computer wasn't transferring the data and after an hour of frustration, the county decide to go "old school" and just print out the results.
"There was a lot of candidates and media that were looking for the results. There were a lot peoples careers on the line and they'd like to know what's going on. We understand that. That's an important function but the voting itself has to come first and that process worked perfectly," says Chief Deputy Clerk Tom Hawes.
By 11-o'clock the computer system was back up and running and the numbers quickly followed.
