ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- An annual tradition fills the streets of downtown Rockford with green for the holiday that makes everyone Irish for a day.

Hundreds of people lined the streets of downtown Rockford as the parade wound its way down to Memorial Hall.

The procession featured everything from classic cars, to bands, and even the animals were getting in the Irish spirit.

A lot of people who were at the parade say today is really all about family.

"I love spending the day with my family and most importantly sharing a special holiday with everyone," Parade Attendee Maggie Rose, said.

"Her name is Ireland Rose and this is her first time out here so hopefully she'll make a yearly event out of it," Patrick O’Connor, who was also at the parade, said.

Speaking of making an event out of the parade, on man who was taking part in the parade surprised his girlfriend by getting down on one knee and proposing. Of course, she said yes!
