DNA Testing Is Under the Microscope

Critics of proposed federal death penalty reforms say crime victims are the people who need more protection by the law. But proponents in Congress are considering granting inmates better access to DNA testing

Winnebago County State's Attorney Paul Logli testified in Washington before the Senate judiciary committee today. Logli says that the DNA testing proposal is too broad.

He says it should be limited to cases where a favorable test would actually prove the defendant's innocence. Logli also said federal training funds should be granted for prosecutors and defenders to keep experienced lawyers in the system.

Logli says it's becoming increasingly difficult to attract and retain good lawyers.
