Several Rockford natives stood up and spoke their minds. It took place at a meeting discussing the proposed "minority and women business enterprise procurement policy". Among other things the policy would require 25% of all city contracts to be given to minority owned businesses and 5% to be awarded to women owned businesses. Alderman Ann Thompson says the policy will not be affective if the proposal is allowed to be watered down.
The proposed policy has been laid over indefinitely; committee chair Frank Beach is the only one who can re-introduce the proposal, Beach is currently recovering from surgery.
