Gov. Rod Blagojevich plans to commemorate the holiday with an appearance Monday at the Polish Museum of America in Chicago. The governor will be announcing a grant to help preserve historical documents and artifacts.
For the rest of Illinois, however, the holiday is hit-or-miss.
Some public schools will be closed, while others choose not to observe the holiday.
Federal and state offices will be open.
