Volunteer fire protection districts Win-Bur-Sew in Winnebago County and Amboy in Lee County will receive thousands of dollars in grant money from the state.
Today Governor Blagojevich announced that 54 fire departments will receive grants to improve emergency response capabilities.
Nearly $1 million will be dispersed among the departments. Amboy fire will get more than $22,000, while Win-Bur-Sew will receive $17,000 to purchase protective clothing and equipment to better serve their communities.
Governor Blagojevich created the Small Equipment Grant Program in 2006, under which fire departments, fire protection districts and township fire departments could apply for grants of up to $26,000.
