Construction is well underway on the ethanol plant in Rochelle. Workers have been laying foundations and putting up framework for six months now. Illinois River Energy is spending $73 million on the project. About $64 million goes to contractors building the site.
There are about 100 construction workers building it right now. When it's finished - there will be 34 full time employees at the plant. Illinois River Energy will also spend about $36 million on local corn per year. The Chief Operating Officer says the development has been welcomed with open arms by people who live in the community.
