WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- There's another candidate running for Winnebago County Sheriff.
Democrat Glenn Heidenreich announced his candidacy on Monday inside the Winnebago County Justice Center. He's a life long resident of Winnebago County, a navy vet and has worked his way up the ranks in the sheriff's department.
Heidenreich says if elected he will build on where Sheriff Dick Myers has left off.
"Sheriff Myers in the years that he has been here has built a great foundation, but to continue on that foundation we need the right person I think I'm the right person I like to continue on working on the crime rate bringing them down," Heidenreich said.
Heidenreich faces off against fellow democrats; Jeffery Schroeder Bob Springer, Randy Olson and Bob Redmond. Republicans Gary Caruana and Frank Pobjecky are also running to replace outgoing Sheriff Meyers, who's retiring at the end of his term.
