ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Rockford Police say their own equipment may have captured last night’s fatal shooting on video.
Detectives are looking over surveillance footage from a traffic light camera at the intersection of Kilburn and School Street. It’s one they say scans the area on a regular basis. Investigators say 25-year-old Dajuan Walker was shot multiple times outside Lee’s Cleaners on School Street on Sunday.
“It’s just not a safe area, it’s not enough security.”
Residents of the area say Dajuan Walker had gotten into his car in the parking lot and was shot twice as he was pulling out. He eventually made his way out of his car onto the stoop where he waited for the ambulance to arrive.
Detectives say Walker is one of nearly 100 shooting victims in the last nine months. Police say they’ve responded to hundreds of shots fired calls city-wide.
“We identify these hot spots, and violent crime is one of our number one issues that we need to deal with, said Deputy Chief David Hopkins.
Investigators say they’re still searching for suspects.
Detectives tell us they have a person of interest but have not made any arrests at this time.
