Rock Island County prosecutor Jeff Terronez said in his opening statement Wednesday morning that Adrianne Reynolds made a fatal mistake in judgment when she met Sarah Kolb.
Prosecutors allege Kolb fought with Reynolds in a car outside a Moline fast-food restaurant in January of 2005. They say Kolb and a co-defendant killed Reynolds, dismembered the body and hid the remains in two counties.
Defense attorney David Hoffman told the jury to pay close attention to prosecution witnesses, whose testimony he says is riddled with gossip and second-hand facts.
Kolb's first trial ended in a mistrial in November. A judge moved the second trial to Dixon.
