ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A nearly five hour standoff ends with an Indiana murder suspect in custody and no one hurt.

Winnebago County Sheriff S.W.A.T. arrested Anthony Jefferson just before 10pm Thursday.

Jefferson was visiting family in Rockford while running from U.S. Marshals following a very violent couple days in South Bend Indiana where Jefferson killed one man and shot another. Jefferson also committed two robberies and abducted a woman and her child after forcing the woman to withdraw money from an ATM. Those crimes also took place in South Bend, all of them since Sunday evening.

U.S. Marshals tracked the 43 year old to 526 N Court in Rockford this afternoon. That's when the man barricaded himself inside his family's home basement and waited police out until authorities barged in, arresting the man without a single gunshot being fired. That's because Jefferson, who was feared to be armed, was indeed unarmed when he was taken into custody.

Jefferson's family waited outside the home during the standoff, fearing Jefferson, who the family claims they haven't seen in 27 years before yesterday, would end up being killed.

Police say Marshals were looking for Jefferson in Rockford on the murder warrant.

He's charged in St. Joseph County Indiana on one count of murder, attempted murder, two counts of robbery, and two counts of criminal confinement.
