UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A Rockford woman is heading to prison after pleading guilty to stabbing a man to death inside her apartment.
28-year-old Sarah Bates was sentenced today to 10 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
Back in September 2013, deputies were called to Bates’ apartment on Linden Road.
Detectives say Bates and 30-year-old Kathy Mazique got into a fight. That’s when she grabbed a knife and stabbed Mazique several times in the chest.

27-year-old Sarah Bates was formally charged in court today with involuntary manslaughter.
On September 30th, Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Bates’ apartment on Linden Road. That’s where they found 30-year-old Kathy Mazique dead. Detectives say Bates stabbed the victim several times after the couple got into a fight. Bates will be in court next on December 4th.

Police say deputies responded to an apartment in the 4900 block of Linden Road around 11:30 p.m. Monday. According to the Winnebago County Coroner, the man, 30-year-old Kathy Mazique, died from a stab wound to the chest. He did not live in the apartment but was visiting.
UPDATE: The man found stabbed to death late Monday night in a Rockford apartment has been identified.
According to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office, 30-year-old Kathy Mazique was apparently stabbed multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
The autopsy shows he died due to a stab wound to the chest. A 27-year-old woman is currently in custody, however, she has not been charged at this point.
The death remains under investigation by the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office.

According to a press release, deputies responded to an apartment in the 4900 block of Linden Road around 11:30 p.m. Monday. The 30-year-old died from an apparent stab wound. He did not live in the apartment but was visiting.
A 27-year-old woman is currently in custody. She has not yet been charged.
The incident appears to be domestic. Detectives are following up with an investigation in conjunction with the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office. The Winnebago County Coroner will conduct an autopsy later Tuesday.
The victim's identity has not been released yet pending family notification.
