DeKalb County Woman Dead After Driving Through Construction Site

DEKALB COUNTY (WIFR) -- A DeKalb County woman is dead after crashing her car on a road closed due to construction Monday evening.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, 66-year-old Susan F. Walker was heading southbound on Esmond Road around 5 p.m. Monday. When coming across barricades indicating the bridge was under construction, she drove around them. She then struck the bridge abutment.

A passerby found Walker slumped over in the vehicle. CPR was performed. Walker was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash and death remain under investigation.
