Family of Local Hit and Run Victim Searches for Answers a Year Later

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It's been one year since a Rockford father was killed in a hit and run accident, while walking home from a downtown concert. His family is still trying to draw attention to the case, hoping their loved one's killer will come forward.

No one has been arrested for the death of Michael Steines. Family members say they won't be able to move on until they find justice for their loved one.

"Knowing that someone took him and they get to walk the earth free, that makes losing him that much more painful," said Tressie Nesemeier, the victim's sister.

It happened last summer...Police say 34 year old Michael Steines was hit and killed by a driver on South Second Street, after walking home from a concert.

Police believe the driver was speeding, but there weren't any witnesses. Michael's sister says its been hard for the family to heal, when there's still no answers.

"We want the person that did it to pay, i don't know how anyone can sleep at night knowing they took a man from his children, from his family and they're okay with it," says Nesemeier.

Family members tell 23 News they just want the person responsible to come forward or at least anyone with information about that accident, so they can finally have peace.
