It's been a little over two years since it began as a fledgling incubator for local businesses and in that time the Eigerlab has developed extensive support from area educators, manufacturers and political leaders.
Monday marked a special occasion for the former Ingersoll manufacturing facility as the US Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez took a first hand look at the lab.
"This is a great example of what we should be doing as a nation and throughout the country. And this has been open for two and half years, and when you look back five to ten years from now you'll see how much this has done for your community," says U.S. Gutierrez.
Congressman Don Manzullo has helped secure more than 12 million dollars in contracts and direct federal funding for Eigerlab companies. The state has also invested an additional 1.6 million dollars.
All of this money spent is an effort to make Rockford an advanced international manufacturing center. Guiterrez also focused on issues affecting our country's economy. Right now he says it’s getting stronger and that we are one of the fastest growing economies in the world, growing twice as fast as the European Union.
