Gov. Rod Blagojevich Thursday called for spending reforms at state universities.

Blagojevich told the State Board of Higher Education to give him a plan within 30 days to reduce administrative costs at the state's nine public universities.

He also wants the board to focuses on other ways the schools can save money through joint purchases or cooperative ventures.

The governor also called for an end to free tickets for lawmakers, the governor and his staff to university football games and other sporting events.

Other spending reforms the governor wants include limits on travel, meal and entertainment expenses by university officials and faculty.

Blagojevich also called for an immediate halt to charter flights by university trustees.
