Rockford garbage strike?

Things could pretty rancid in Rockford next week. The union for Rock River Disposal has been going back and forth in contract talks with the company for more than a month now.

There is some good news. Union leaders have reached a tentative agreement with Rock River Disposal. It still needs the approval of union members. Many of them aren't happy.

Their contract expired on January first. So the company extended it for a week while both sides negotiated. The biggest issue has been pay. The company originally wanted to cut driver's bonuses and instead give them a pay raise.

Negotiators will not disclose the terms of this new contract. Some members of the union doubt it will be fair. But a union leader says the proposed contract is a good contract. Richard Thompson says now it's up to members to ratify it.
