Big changes are in store for residents living the Meadows of Springbrook. Just last month they were notified that they would be forced to annex with Rockford. After several complaints were made to the city from neighbors about the lack of communication, those issues were addressed by the council this week.
Tenth Alderman, Franklin Beach says, "We did agree to delay it for 120 days from Tuesday. In that meeting we come back again together and this is the time it will occur."
The Meadows of Springbrook has 76 homes. City planners believe annexation will benefit this area, it will provide full time police and fire protection along with city water. Although some residents feel comfortable with the decision, the accompanying tax increase is still a concern.
Resident, John Cover says, "Its still 24-25 percent tax increase. I think any person in this community if they were controlled by the city government and they were told they were going to raise there taxes 24 percent, they'd still say wait a minute where's the justification what am I getting in return for that."
To help residents understand what will happen several meetings are scheduled to explain what is involved with the annexation process.
