After decades of patience and persitence gloria giraldo is now a homeowner.
Thanks to a special program, on Thursday she closed on her new home, and opened up a new chapter in her life.
The dietary worker at Swedish American Hospital is moving into the mid-town north neighborhood. The hospital, and the state of Illinois, gave Giraldo $8,000 for the down payment. The money not only made the home affordable, but also available.
"I was dreaming for a house and they made the dream true. They helped me with the down payment, and the money, and for everything," Giraldo said.
"We've all heard if it's too good to be true it must be, but this one isn't too good to be true. We will help our employees buy houses around Swedish-American hospital," John Mecklenburg said.
Giraldo's new home is part of a big neighborhood revitalization by Swedish-American.
Since 2002, the hospital's foundation has purchased 52 parcels of land, built 20 new homes, and rehabbed 10 others .
