DIXON (WIFR) -- A Lee County teenager is heading to prison, after pleading guilty to killing a Dixon woman by dragging her nearly 20 feet with his car.
Keith Shomaker, 19, was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison for Reckless Homicide. In June 2013, Kimberly Landwer, 25, was getting out of Shomaker's car in the 100 block of East Seventh Street when the two got into a fight.
Police say Landwer was leaning inside the front passenger-side window, when Shomaker took off, causing her to fall under the car and hit her head. Landwer died days later at a Peoria hospital.
Kimberly Landwer was taken off life support at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria on Thursday and died Friday.
Lee County State's Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller says the driver of the car, Keith J. Shomaker, has been charged in the case. However, she has said the 19-year-old Shomaker could face a reckless homicide charge if Landwer died.
Shomaker is currently being held in lieu of $50,000 bond on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
Authorities say Landwer got out of Shomaker's car after Landwer and a Dixon man argued. Landwer leaned into the front passenger-side window and Shomaker drove off, causing the woman to fall under the car.
