It's a stately symbol of Janesville’s history. Once a home to a revered National Guard unit that embodied the ideals of the community and developer Mick Gilbertson is dedicated to preserving the history of the building as he creates a new, regional entertainment venue.
Construction began in July and on Saturday; the armory will open its doors once again. Between 70 and 80 jobs are being created, and Gilbertson hopes the armory will rejuvenate development in downtown Janesville and lure more people to the city.
The Drill Hall Theatre, where soldiers once trained for combat will premier in February with the production of Miss Saigon, a modern concept housed within a historic building, and a hope that new development will continue to spur in Janesville.
