ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Friends of a local murder victim are speaking out after police arrest the suspect who they believe shot and killed the 30 year old father outside his Nelson Boulevard home last month.

WIFR sat down with the victim’s girlfriend who says she watched her boyfriend die.

Doris Gregory says it’s been hard dealing with the murder of her boyfriend Donmarquis Jackson and she won’t be satisfied until the people responsible for her boyfriend’s death face justice she says. She also says the memory of the night Jackson was killed is still fresh.

"Still having flashbacks about what happened that night,” Gregory said. “I just remember just seeing him laying there and his face just keeps going through my head."

23 year old Lorenzo Kent Jr. is charged with Jackson’s murder. Police tell us he was already in the Winnebago County Jail for a different charge when they served his arrest warrant.

Jackson was killed on Nelson Boulevard in early May. Police tell us he was shot multiple times in his driveway. A memorial sits on the curb in front of the home where he and Doris Gregory lived.

Gregory told 23 News they were expecting a child together.

Lorenzo Kent is charged with two counts of first degree murder.
