Two Rockford residents are accused of gang-raping and torturing a 15 year old girl in Arizona. Police arrested Mark Grayned and Deairick Newsome on Rockford's northwest side Friday.
Newsome and Grayned are both charged with nine counts of sexual assault. Police believe Grayned worked with other criminals to kidnap the victim. Phoenix authorities found her in an apartment last month. The kidnappers used a dog cage to keep her captive.
Lieutenant Stephen Pirages says both Grayned and Newsome lived in Rockford before the crime occurred. They recently moved back, and have family here in Rockford. But it was Phoenix authorities that tipped off Rockford police to look for the two in the stateline.
"We came up with some addresses, once warrants were issued we acted on the warrants and executed them yesterday morning," said Lt. Pirages.
Police found the suspects at two different residences. They will be in court Monday for an extradition hearing.
