WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) -- A 50-year prison sentence was handed a man convicted of killing an unarmed man lured to a McHenry County home for sex.
Timothy Smith apologized Wednesday for offering his pregnant wife to Kurt Milliman. Despite his contrition, Judge Sharon Prather handed down the lengthy sentence.
Authorities say after Smith killed Milliman in May 2011, Smith told authorities he stopped an intruder attacking his wife.
Smith later admitted Milliman came to his house in response to an online ad in which Smith offered paid sexual encounters with wife.
During his trial in February, Smith contended he unintentionally shot Milliman while trying to protect his wife. Prosecutors said Milliman was shot while attempting to leave without paying for an uncompleted sexual encounter.
Kimberly Smith testified she refused to have sex with Milliman.
