The Stateline is in a deep freeze. It's hard to get our cars started, mittens and scarves are a necessity for going outside. These conditions are hardest on people who don't have homes to warm up in. People who are out of a job, or have run into bad luck.
A caseworker at Rockford’s Red Cross shelter says surviving the sub-zero weather will be a daily struggle for many people all winter.
Across town shelters are packed. The Rockford Rescue Mission has been filled to capacity the past four nights. The Red Cross has about 40 people staying there Wednesday night. And the crowds will continue to file in.
