Rockford Home Hit Eight Times in an Overnight Shooting

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Police are still searching for suspects after an east-side home is shot eight times. The home owner says it’s nothing new.

Gene Garcia says he heard ten to twelve gunshots around 9:30pm last night. When he went outside he saw his van’s side and rear windows were shot out and an exit hole just above his rear passenger door.

Eight of those gunshots hit his home on the 1500 block of Williamsburg Road near the Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club. One bullet hit under an upstairs bedroom window blasting through the other side before resting in the room’s VCR cabinet.

Another bullet went through a living room window next to where Garcia says his son was shot a couple years ago.

Garcia says he’s not sure if the two crimes are related, but does say his family knows how lucky they are no one was injured.

Garcia said, "With that many gunshots...that many bullets flying through the air…ricochets off of things...ricochets off of concrete...people could have been injured...not only in our house but other houses around."

Investigators say they may be looking for two suspects. They also said they’re seeing an increase in shots-fired calls.
