FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Of the nearly 300 Stephenson County 4-H members who exhibited their projects at the shows before and during the county fair, 35 of them earned the right to exhibit their projects at the Illinois State Fair as well.
Stephenson County’s exhibition date took place on Saturday, August 10th at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, IL. All 35 members received the Award of Excellence, and six of them also earned the Superior Award for their projects. “Some of our kids have never been much beyond their own backyards, so when they earn the chance and can actually attend the State Fair, it is such a growing and memorable experience for them,” said Lori Tessendorf, 4-H Program Coordinator. “These experiences help them come out of their shells and are things they will carry with them the rest of their lives.”
The six 4-H members from Stephenson County who received the Superior Award are: Brooke Colberg - Country Cuzins 4-H Club; Mary Engelkens - Rainbow Rangers 4-H Club; Hailey Johnson - Pearl City Hornets 4-H Club; Angie Lake - Lena Live Wires 4-H Club; Kayla Miller - Freeport Fantastics 4-H Club; and Ethan Trampel - Country Cuzins 4-H Club. Congratulations to all for a job well done! For more information on 4-H or how to join, contact University of Illinois Extension-Stephenson County at 815-235-4125.
