ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Rockford woman is dead and another is in the hospital after an alcohol related crash sends a vehicle flying into a local creek.

The Winnebago County Coroner’s office says Tamika Eldridge, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene in the 900 block of West Jefferson Street at around 1:00 am. She was a passenger in a car driven by another woman who is in stable condition at a local hospital. The Rockford Police Department tells 23 News an officer responded to the accident after hearing a loud crash a little before 1am on Sunday. The officer found the victim's SUV inside Kent Creek, which runs along Fairgrounds Park.

A preliminary investigation shows alcohol and speed contributed to the crash.
